The ECC Thursday night tournament for April, Art Skeel Memorial, will begin this Thursday, April 3, at the Edmonton Chess Club.
It will be a 4-week tournament, using accelerated Swiss pairings.
Entry fee is $3 for the month, and you must have a current CFC
membership, which can be purchased at the club.
Please register from 6:30 - 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, with the game
starting at 7:00.
Time control : game in 110 min, with 30 sec increment on each move.
If you cannot play on April 3, but would like to play on following
Thursdays, you can certainly do that, with half-point byes given for
any rounds missed prior to round 4.

Vlad Rekhson, one of the strongest players in Edmonton, is giving a simultaneous exhibition at the club in Saturday, March 29th. Vlad will give a material advantage to his opponents, varies by their rating:
- > 2000 = move
- 1500 <>2000 = pawn & move
- 1000 <>1500 = piece (Queen Knight)
- Unrated & <1000 = piece (Queen Rook)
The proceeds will go to the prize fund of the 2008 Edmonton International Tournament (2008 August Long Weekend). Entry Fees are $10 for adult and $5 for junior players. If you win, you get the satisfaction of beating Vlad, and… 2 items from the concession!

National Master Nicolas Haynes, one of the strongest players in Edmonton, is giving a simultaneous exhibition at the ECC in Saturday, March 15th, at 13.00.
Net proceeds will go to the prize fund of the 2008 Edmonton International Tournament (2008 August Long Weekend.) Come and support this worthy effort at the club; players of all skill levels are welcome!
Entry Fees are:
- $10 for adult players
- $5 for junior players
If you beat Nic, you will get double your entry fee back!!!

The ECC Capablanca Classic starts on Thursday, March 6th, at 7:00 PM.
Registration from 6:30-6:50 PM. Phone 424-0283 if you want to play
but might be late.
This will be a 4-round accelerated Swiss, and entry fee is only $3 for
CFC members ($13 for non-members).
It will run on Thursdays throughout the month of March.
