ECC July Open

The ECC July Open begins Thursday, July 3rd, night at 7:00 PM.
Registration from 6:30-6:50 PM, or phone the ECC if you want to play but might be late. Phone 424-0283 and leave a message.

The July Open will be a 5-round Accelerated Swiss, running from July 3 to July 31.

DURING THE FINAL ROUND, WE WILL BE JOINED BY THE GRANDMASTERS FROM THE
EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL
, playing their first round game.

Edmonton Champ Simul, May 24

Everyone is invited to come and play in the simul which
will be given by the Edmonton Champion Blagoj Gicev at the ECC on
Saturday, May 24th.

The doors will open at 12:30 and the simul starts at 1:00 pm.

Entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for juniors with net proceeds going
to support the Edmonton International. Some small prizes will be
available.

Hope to see many of you there.

Championship which will take place on Sunday, May 11th at the
Edmonton Chess Club. New players welcome!

New ECC tournament

A new ECC tournament starts this Thursday at 7:00 PM. This will be a 5-round
Swiss, divided into two sections.

If you want to play, but might be a bit late for registration, please
phone the ECC at 424-0283 and leave a message. You will then be paired
and your clock will be started at 7 PM.

Registration from 6:30-6:50 PM.
Entry fee: Only $3 for CFC/ECC members ($15 for non members).

This month will be the Hollowach Memorial (upper section) and Schnitka
Memorial (lower section). It will be a Swiss format, divided into two
separate sections by rating.

Time control: G/110 minutes, + 30 seconds/move.

The Lone Wolf Simultaneous Chess Exhibition

In honor of the recently deceased chess icon Robert Fischer, there will be a random back rank (Fischer Random) simultaneous exhibition at the club in Saturday, April 19, at 1 pm. National Master Nicolas Haynes, one of the strongest players in Edmonton, is giving the exhibition at the club. Nic will give opponents the option of a normal back rank. Net proceeds will go to the prize fund of the 2008 Edmonton International Tournament (2008 August Long Weekend)

Entry Fees are $10 for adult players and $5 for junior players.

In case you win, you get the satisfaction of beating Nic and 2 items from the concession!!
