Blagoj Gicev defeated Jeff Reeve in the Edmonton Championship final on
Thursday night.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, March 1st at the
Edmonton Chess Club.
Just like last year the ECC will be donating $75 to the prize fund
which will be boosted by 100% of entry fees.
It is expected to be quite many prizes, including class prizes,
in fact the only thing that should match the number of prizes in this
event will be the number of blunders.
Entry fee: $5 per participant (no CFC or any other kind of membership
is required)
Eligibility: Everyone is welcome to play!
Hours: Registration will be from 12:00-12:45, rounds will start at
1:00 pm (Please don’t be late as late registration will not be taken)
Expected end time 4:30-5:00 pm.
Format: Will be determined on-site as it will depend on the number
of participants.

The Edmonton Championship & Reserves will begin this Thursday, January 10th
at 7:00 PM at the Edmonton Chess Club (10840 124 st. Phone 424-0283).
23 players have pre-registered so far, including three Masters. Many more will register at the door. The prize fund includes $1000 in cash guaranteed, plus a trip for the new Edmonton Champion to the 2008 Canadian Championship (pending AGLC approval). There will be cash prizes in both the Championship and the Reserves.

Round times: 7:00 PM
Time control: Game in 110 minutes, plus 30 seconds/move increment
Membership: CFC membership is required and is available at the door.
Formats: The Championship will be a 16 player knockout event. The top 15
players who register will compete, plus the winner of the U-2000 Championship, Jim Lynn.
Players will compete in 2-game matches (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc) with the winner advancing to the next round, and the other player joining the Reserves.
The Reserves will be an Open Swiss. There will be cash prizes in
both events ($200 in the reserves, plus a $100 bonus prize. $700 in the
Championship, plus a $100 bonus prize.)
On Friday, January 11, there will be a blitz tournament for all ages starting 7
p.m. The entry fee is $10 and all entries will go into the prize fund with
prizes distributed through various rating groups. Pre-registration is required -
either e-mail or put your name on the posted list at the
club before January 8. There will be free coffee, tea and dessert bars during
the evening.
